Harshita is an extraordinary individual who joined Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) in 2022 as an international student, all the way from Noida, India. She came to college to study A-Levels in Maths, Physics and Graphic Design, adjusting quickly to her new realities of life and education.
Taking advantage of the outstanding support available at RuTC, Harshita threw herself into her studies and a multitude of extracurricular activities. Her hard work and dedication paid off when she won a national competition held by the Bank of England in 2023, which rewarded her with a 6-week paid internship at the UK’s central bank, within the data and innovation team. She also completed a successful work placement with the global networking major, Cisco, earlier the same year.
Harshita easily found her feet and a friendship support system at college, no doubt due to her open and engaging demeanour. She praises the people she has met at RuTC, both teachers and peers, stating, “They have played a vital role in my academic and personal development, making my college experience truly enriching.”
Harshita also grew her network wider through being a part of the college trip to Tanzania as well as other trips related to her studies, including exploring Kew Gardens and the Greenwich Observatory.
“Believe in Yourself”
With her sights set high on a future career in the field of artificial intelligence, Harshita is inspired by the endless potential of innovation and its power to solve complex problems and make societal improvements.
She beams, “Technology is a dynamic field that is constantly evolving, and I’m fascinated by the endless opportunities to create and explore. I'm driven by the idea of using technology to address real-world challenges, from healthcare and education to sustainability and beyond.”
Having left the college this year (2024), Harshita is on track to receive impressive results in her exams and is then planning on completing an internship with IBM as a Product Business Analyst. Following on from this she will be looking forward to a degree apprenticeship to further her skills and industry exposure.
Harshita’s words of wisdom to future students are: “College is a unique and transformative experience. You will be treated as adults and not little kids, which will encourage you to make your own decisions and become responsible. So, believe in yourself and don’t hold back from taking on new challenges!”
