I am 19 years old, and I come from Sri Lanka. I am currently studying Access to HE Medicine Diploma at Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC).
I decided to move to the UK for higher education because it is known for its quality education system and is a world leader in science and healthcare fields. I believe the prestige of receiving a British education will give me exposure to the most recent advancements in health sciences and enhance my academic profile and future career prospects. I was also attracted to studying here as the UK is such a multicultural country, so I would get the opportunity to meet and work with different people from all around the world.
As RuTC is a part of London’s top college groups, I was very happy to secure a place here. The location of the college is in a calm and safe area, and it also has a lot of course options and good facilities. I find the tutors and teachers to be very helpful and considerate, which is a big draw.
I believe the Level 3 Access course is a brilliant opportunity for older students, like me, to ease back into studies and prepare for university. As someone who took a gap year, this course has helped me rediscover new academic skills and has given me a broader perspective on the subject. Another thing I like about the course is that I get to meet people from all different age groups, which is a new experience. I have met some great people in class and have been able to learn new things from them.
On the completion of my course, I’d like to progress to university, to study Biomedical Sciences. My plan is to qualify with a degree in this field and pursue a career in the UK as a Biomedical or Clinical Scientist.
