The qualification covers the principles of engineering, engineering workshop practice and working in the engineering business. You will gain an understanding of electronic components, be able to assemble and interconnect electronic circuits, test electronic components and understand why automation is used. There is employer involvement in projects, as part of the qualification.

Entry requirements
Minimum GCSEs are grade 2 in four subjects, including Mathematics, Science, English Language and Design Technology. You will need an assessment and interview and must be motivated, committed and have a positive attitude.

This qualification is suitable if you want to work in the engineering and manufacturing sectors. If you like to explore how simple components and complex machines are designed, made or maintained and are keen to develop practical, technical skills and wish to follow a pathway of electronics.

All students will have to provide appropriate personal protective equipment (overalls and safety boots at approximately £70). You will also need to buy a calculator.
