This is a unit based qualification with assessment points throughout the year. The Diploma is the first component of a full Extended Diploma which is completed over 2 years. Dance transforms images, ideas and feelings into sequences of movement. It allows people to discover, explore and develop their movement vocabulary and create dynamic movement material. It is a practical based course that focuses on technique, performance and choreography.
You will study contemporary dance, jazz, ballet, choreography, improvisation and dance theory. You will take part in multiple staged shows, performing different choreographic pieces as well as showcasing your own choreography. You will have the opportunity to take part in workshops led by artists in the industry, and attend dance performances and events like MOVE IT. You will be supported in deciding your future steps in higher education or in the vocation, and have regular 1-1 sessions with your teachers, when your progress and goals will be discussed.
As part of the course you will also study business, historical context, dance fitness and anatomy.

Entry requirements
Minimum requirements 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 (grade C and above) including English and Dance at grade 4 (GCSE dance is not essential, however, previous dance experience is required). Or, Level 2 Diploma at Distinction/Merit plus GCSE English at grade 4. You will be invited to attend an interview and audition.

Who is the course for?
If you love dance and the performing arts, this course is for you. You will develop skills as a dancer and will gain the qualifications necessary to enter higher education or work in the industry.

Study methods
For each project and its content will be clearly outlined by your tutor in the form of a brief. In a vocational context, that aims to replicate and prepare you for real life situations in the industry, you will be assessed through rehearsals, practical performances and written coursework. You will also be expected to independently research and rehearse towards performances and projects.

Where Next – Further Studies
The UAL Level 3 Diploma in Performing and Production Arts (Dance) is the first year of a nationally recognised qualification and is designed to prepare you for a career in the performing arts industry. It offers progression the Extended Diploma also in Dance. Achievement of the Extended Diploma is required for application to Higher Education. Some of the dance schools and universities that past RuTC students have progressed to include: Bird College, LIPA, London Studio Centre, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Millennium Performing Arts, Stella Mann College, The Urdang Academy, Chichester University, Middlesex University, Roehampton University.
The course also provides you with a background for arts administration or community based project roles. -
