Science

This Level 3 course in Biomedical Science is a 2 year course and can give you the opportunity to go on to study a range of medically related degrees.

In your first year you will study the following mandatory units:

  • Principles and Applications of Science I
  • Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques
  • Scientific Investigation
  • Laboratory Techniques and their Application

    Other units to choose from are:
  • Human Regulation and Reproduction
  • Diseases and Infections.

    In your second year, you will study the following mandatory units:
  • Principles and Applications of Science II
  • Contemporary Issues in Science
  • Investigative Project

    Other units to choose from are:
  • Genetics and Genetic Engineering
  • Industrial Chemical Reactions
  • Applications of Inorganic Chemistry
  • Biological Molecules and Metabolic Pathways.

    You are also expected to carry out 30 hours work experience in both the first and second year.
    Students will also have the opportunity to go on trips to places such as the Wellcome Trust and National Physical Laboratory (NPL).
  • Entry requirements

    5 x GCSEs with grade 4 and above.

  • Who is the course for?

    This course is designed for students who are 16 - 18 years old as well as 19+.

  • Study methods

    You will study using a range of methods including practicals, simulations, groupwork, independent studies and lectures.

  • How is the course assessed?

    You will be assessed through formal examinations, externally assessed tasks and with various assignments.
