All units in this qualification are mandatory, which provides a balance of breadth and depth, ensuring that you develop the technical and practical skills required in the occupational area.
Of the 6 mandatory units, 2 are externally assessed. The external assessments for this qualification take the form of a task that allows you to apply your skills and knowledge in context to a realistic work-based activity, and an onscreen test that includes a variety of onscreen question types that allows you to apply your knowledge to several work-related contexts.
Internal assessment allows you to apply technical knowledge and demonstrate mastery of practical and technical skills through realistic tasks and activities. The evidence for this will be assignment based.

Minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths and English Language at grade 3.

Who is the course for?
All the content of the qualification is mandatory and relates directly to the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected by employers in the IT sector. The areas learners will cover include:
- Understanding IT network features and functions, including common practices in network security, and the function and features of the main network appliances
- Setting up new equipment and upgrading existing systems
- IT service solutions and the issues encountered in IT solutions in an organisation
- Use of ethical hacking techniques to test the security of a network
- Creating and maintaining a network.

This course is classroom taught and you will have opportunities to develop your creative skills through instructor-led workshops.
