On Thursday 28th April, a group of Philosophy, Religion and Ethics A-Level students at Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) had the opportunity to visit Westminster Abbey in central London for a tour.
Students were given a private tour of the Abbey with commentary from a guide. This involved seeing the graves of old Kings and Queens, as well as some of the most influential thinkers of our time, including Charles Darwin and Stephen Hawking.
The trip gave our students an enriching understanding of Christian beliefs and values and other themes within Philosophy and Religion, helping them understand the work they have been doing in class. The visit allowed them to explore questions such as "Does God truly exist?", "Is there such thing as life after death?" and "Does science conflict with religion?"
Philosophy student, Sarvesh Amatya, took some incredible artistic photos of the Abbey during the trip, truly capturing the beauty and intricacies of the building.
Sarvesh spoke of the outing:
“Stepping into Westminster Abbey was like walking through a main pillar of English history. Each detailed stone, worn from years of use in each delicate archway. I loved taking pictures of the light dancing upon the stained glass, capturing a tapestry of history and faith. This visit showed a side of history I hadn't seen before."
