One of our fantastic ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Young Learner students, Sadana Gurung, has won a Jack Petchey award for excellence.
The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme recognises the positive contributions, efforts and endeavours of young people aged 11-25 across London and Essex. These achievements include being a great role model, volunteering, overcoming personal challenges and supporting others over and above expectations.
Each term exceptional students are nominated by their classmates to win a Jack Petchey award. The winner receives a £300 grant, which can be used for anything that will benefit the class.
Sadana won this award for being a polite and respectful student. She is always punctual, takes a keen interest in her lessons and participates willingly in class. She is also known to be very helpful and offers help to her peers and friends regularly, in and outside the classroom. She has also recently taken up karate, showing an interest in extracurricular activities and aspirations for self-development.
Sadana’s teacher, Ashrita, commented on her achievement:
“Sadana is a very diligent student and has high aspirations for herself. She wishes to pursue further studies and become a teacher later in life, which she is very much capable of. I am very certain that with Sadana’s drive, hard work and ambition she will grow up to have a productive and fulfilling life and will carry on spreading her positivity and caring attitude towards others.”
With the £300 grant from the award, Sadana has chosen to take her class on a fun filled trip to Brighton next term, where students will have the chance to see and learn about the British seaside town.
