Acting students at Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) performed four shows of the comedy play, ‘Gargantua’ last week for busy audiences in our college auditorium.
‘Gargantua’ by Carl Grose is an absurd comedy which takes viewers on a rather crazy and illogical journey, which ultimately results in reflection on human connections and what people will do for those they love or what they believe in.
The cast was a combination of our Performing Arts Level 2, Level 3 and Level 3 Extended Diploma students, who were raising money for Unicef through the shows.
Audiences were thoroughly entertained by our actors' comedic performances and the featured 80s soundtrack!
Teacher and Director, Emily Tobias and Co-directors, Jane Swift and Rhys Slyfield, who also teach in the performing arts department, commented,
“We were so proud of our students’ achievements over the four public performances of Gargantua. They demonstrated their comedic ability, bravery in creating extreme characters and amazing focus and energy which really brought the play to life. The students worked tirelessly both off and on stage to create the colourful over the top 1980s theme we chose and embraced the ridiculous nature of the play and made the audience laugh from start to finish which was our intention.”
