Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) Catering student, Lucy Wilson, who is completing her Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery and Food & Beverage Service, has won a Jack Petchey award for hard work and commitment to her studies.
The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme recognises the positive contributions, efforts and endeavours of young people aged 11-25 across London and Essex. These achievements include being a great role model, volunteering, overcoming personal challenges and supporting others over and above expectations.
Each term exceptional students are nominated by their classmates to win a Jack Petchey award. The winner receives a £300 grant, which can be used for anything that will benefit the class.
Lucy has been praised by her peers as being perseverant, a problem solver and confident in her work. She is also a helpful classmate and very encouraging of others. Lucy is known to be a friendly student and always has a smile on her face.
Lucy’s tutor Daniele commented:
“Lucy has been with us at RuTC since September 2023 and has been a great asset for our Catering department, with good attendance and commitment to the course. She helped over the busy Christmas period with evening services and worked two Saturdays in February and March of this year for the two Six Nations rugby events we held in the college. Lucy is a very approachable student with a great personality, and I am very pleased she has won this award. She deserves all the recognition for her huge efforts this year!”
Alongside her studies, Lucy is completing some exciting work experience with celebrity chef, Lawrence Keogh at ‘The Foundry’ in Thames Ditton. Through this work experience, Lucy has secured a part-time job at the restaurant – a fantastic achievement! She will be continuing to study at RuTC next year, beginning her Level 3 courses in September.
