Sports Spectacular students playingLast month, all Sports students at Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge Colleges (HRUC) participated in a ‘Sports Spectacular’ day held at the Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC) campus.

There were 90 students in total in attendance, across the three colleges. The biggest student event to date that HRUC has held of this kind.

The day began with a nutritious breakfast for participants and staff, to prepare them for a day full of exertion, followed by a briefing session and a chance to socialise ahead of the competition.

Students were then split into college teams to compete in four different sport activities: volleyball, football, tag rugby and an obstacle course. After a long day of games and friendly rivalry, Uxbridge College managed to take the win by 1 point, with RuTC coming in 2nd place and Harrow College in 3rd.

Sports Spectacular obstacle courseThe highlight of the day was the obstacle course, with students and staff both thoroughly enjoying the silly, lighthearted fun of it.

Students all had a wonderful day participating in the activities and getting to know each other, giving amazing feedback, with one student commenting, “It was the best thing the college has done, and it was great to make use of the facilities and meet students from the other colleges.”

RuTC Sport’s lecturer and organiser of the event, Shahbaz Hasan, commented:

Sports Spectacular sports students“Everyone had a fabulous day; students were in great spirits, and it was great to see such a high level of effort and competition from all who participated. The event represented the first opportunity our students from all campuses had to meet each other and share their experiences. The day really celebrated the benefits of our college group for students. We are really looking forward to next year’s event!”
