Origins Creatives Carly ExhibitionTwo creative arts students at Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC), Sienna Ghai of Level 1 Art, Design and Media, and Carly Fernandes of Level 2 Art & Design, had their work selected for the UAL Origins Creatives exhibition this year.

The UAL Awarding Body’s annual celebration of student achievements took place in July this year at the Mall Galleries, in central London. About 150 pieces of works, by incredibly talented students, were chosen from 400 submissions to be displayed for over 2500 visitors over the 4-day exhibition. It was an opportunity for students, teachers and families to come together and celebrate student creativity.

Origins Creatives Sienna ExhibitionSienna commented on her project, “Happier Than Ever”:

“The theme I explored was pop culture, particularly the singer and song writer Billie Eilish. I was very inspired by Billie’s song titles during this project and wanted to create a visual representation of the themes in the songs. I selected fourteen songs from Billie’s album, “Happier Than Ever” and created a piece of artwork for each song.

I enjoy making collage pieces, so I found images to print and cut out, ripped and created things out of scrap paper, and drew components to stick on my collage pieces. I rely on my imagination when it comes to art, and this project was based entirely on that and how I interpreted the pop culture theme. I am inspired by Billie for who she is, because she has spoken very openly about her mental health struggles and her ability to overcome this. This strength helps me to not give up myself, even when things get tough.”

This is a fantastic achievement for our gifted students, and a wonderful way to end a year of hard work!
