During December we have had some wonderful festive activities happening at Richmond upon Thames College (RuTC). Our staff and students have thrown themselves into the Christmas spirit and have been running fundraisers, performing for busy audiences and helping those in need this winter.
In celebration of Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day at the beginning of the month, some members of staff surprised students with a pop-up carol concert in our college Atrium. Staff from different departments across the college spread festive cheer, singing Christmas carols and pop favourites to entertain students over lunchtime. Over £50 was raised for 'Save The Children' charity, through kind donations from students and staff.
Our 1st year, Level 3 Health & Social Care students along with their tutor, Natasha Rego, organised a Christmas Shoebox Appeal throughout December. Food and gift donations were collected from students and staff across the college, which were then packaged together, wrapped up and taken to a local food bank for distribution to families in need, within our community. We are very proud of this successful appeal, our students worked hard to make and fill over 30 surprise charity boxes in total, which were very gratefully received.
The Supported Learning department also held their annual Christmas Market Sale, just before the Christmas break. They have been busy creating an array of handcrafted festive items, such as Christmas crackers, biscuits, cards, and decorations, that they enjoyed selling to other students and staff around the college. They are now planning what resources they will be able to buy and make for the department with their profits!
