Shoe ExhibitionDuring the week before October half term, our Art and Design UAL Level 3, 2nd year students put on a 'Shoe Show' for their first project of the year, as part of their coursework.

The brief set by tutor, Julia Hembrow, asked students to design a shoe concept based on their favourite artist. The idea behind the task was to “walk in the artist's shoes”. This involved exploring the work of their chosen artist, presenting the research behind their choice and then producing their final outcome, a 'homage' shoe, in a medium of their choice. Each student took their own unique and personal take on the brief.

Shoe Exhibition DesignJulia commented on the exhibition, “This object became the starting point to explore ideas of 'walking in others' shoes' and resulted in personal work exploring fine art, graphics and illustration pathways.”

The exhibition was visited by other student groups from across college. Art students presented and discussed their ideas to the visitors resulting in some useful dialogue for all students about how art and business interconnect.

Shoe Exhibition Final DesignArt tutor, Toby Rye, who brought his class to view the exhibition said that it was “one of the best exhibitions he has seen at the college.”
